Kidnapped Chinese Oil Worker Found

A Chinese oil worker has been found alive after being held for almost two weeks by kidnappers, the Chinese Embassy in Khartoum said Friday.

Li Chengwen, the Chinese ambassador, said that the oil worker was in “acceptable condition,” and that he had not been shot and had no serious injuries.

He was one of nine Chinese oil workers kidnapped from an oil field in the state of South Kordofan on Oct. 18.

Four of the men were killed after a botched rescue attempt this week, and three escaped with injuries, according to Chinese officials. Sudan insists that the killings were unprovoked. Not all of the seized workers have been accounted for.
