Transneft Siberia Helps Save Cultural Archeological Legacy

Transneft Siberia performs large-scale work to identify and preserve cultural legacy during revamping of the linear section of oil trunk pipelines. In 2016, approx. RUB 50 million is to be spent for these purposes.

Archeological surveys of the site where new pipelines are to be laid down are underway at 17 facilities. Work on study of the cultural layer is performed in southern areas of Tyumen Region, in Khanty-Mansi and Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Districts, as part of the scheduled revamping of oil trunk pipelines Kholmogory ‑ Klin, Nizhnevartovsk ‑ Kurgan-Kuybyshev, Krasnoleninskaya-Shaim-Konda, Surgut-Gorky ‑ Polotsk, Ust-Balyk – Kurgan ‑ Ufa – Almetievsk etc.

Surveys are performed at the facilities according to Federal Law No. 73-FZ dated June 25, 2002, On Cultural Legacy (Historical and Cultural Monuments) in the Russian Federation, whereby Transneft Siberia is getting down to comprehensive efforts aimed at identification and preservation of ancient artefacts in the production territory two years prior to the start of the infrastructure development for oil pipeline transport facilities.

Rescue archeological field work is performed at archeological sites “locality (village) of Sumpania 5, village of Sumpania 7, and Sumpania archeological ensemble (encampment of Sumpania 3, 3/а, 4, settlement of Sumpania 4/а, 6, 10, 11, system of traps Sumpania 12). This archeological excavation is underway in Konda District (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District – Yugra) in connection with reconstruction of three section of Shaim – Tyumen oil pipeline.

Strictly complying with law, Transneft Siberia is making a significant contribution to development of Russian archeology and getting new information on the history of peoples that populated Western Siberia many centuries ago.
