CGG GeoSoftware announced on July 20, 2017, that the company has donated a full suite of its software technologies to the Petroleum Learning Centre, a joint educational project of Tomsk Polytechnic University in Russia and Heriot-Watt University in Scotland.

Based in Tomsk, Siberia, the Petroleum Learning Centre was established by Tomsk Polytechnic University and the Institute of Petroleum Engineering at Heriot-Watt University in 2001 to train qualified professionals to work in today’s oil and gas industry.

The Petroleum Learning Centre runs 2 MSc degree courses, 1 in Petroleum Engineering and 1 in Reservoir Evaluation and Management.

Graduates of the Centre receive 2 diplomas, one from the Russian University and one from the British University.

The donation includes training licenses for each of the software solutions in its product portfolio.

The software donation will enable students to gain hands-on experience of conducting practical projects with real field data using industry-leading software.

Vitaliy Merkulov, Head of the Oil and Gas Facilities Design Department, Petroleum Learning Centre, said: «CGG GeoSoftware solutions will help our students master the latest technologies in seismic interpretation, prepare high-quality group and individual projects, and expand the abilities of our students, researchers and professors alike for scientific work.»

Yuriy Smirnov, CIS Regional Manager, CGG GeoSoftware, said: «We are keen to support universities in their aspirations to train knowledgeable and skilled graduates so that they become fully-fledged geologists and geophysicists. Combining theory and practice is the best way for a graduate to make a smooth transition from university to a professional working environment. This background gives graduates an excellent start for their future career paths in the oil and gas industry.»
