Iran says oil transit project with Iraq delayed over safety issues

The launch of oil transit project between Iran and Iraq has been put off due to safety problems, an Iranian trade official said on February 27, 2018.

«We need to check the safety of the trucks that are supposed to arrive in Iran, and we are having problems in this regard because we do not have X-ray machines,» secretary of the Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce, Hamid Hosseini, was quoted as saying by Press TV.

«In this regard, we are talking with the Iraqi side, and if they agree, we will use their facilities and gradually complete our equipment,» Hosseini added.

Iran and Iraq signed a deal in December 2017, under which Iraq is about to truck 60,000 bpd of oil from its northern fields to Iran. The 2 neighbors also plan to build a pipeline to carry oil from Kirkuk to Iranian refineries in Kermanshah, Tabriz, Tehran and Arak.
