These large-scale works were carried out within the framework of the «Program for the Development of the Oil & Gas Industry of Turkmenistan for the Period up to 2030».
Drilling of wells located in a promising area next to the large gas field Malay, was carried out by drillers of the expedition «Lebapnebitgazgozleg» of the State Corporation Turkmengeology.
The Malay gas field was put into pilot production in 1986.
Today, 91 wells operate here.
At present, more than 300 000 m3 of natural gas is sent daily from the Agarguy field to the Turkmenistan-China transnational gas pipeline.
Despite its vast oil and natural gas resource base, Turkmenistan is not a major player in energy markets because of the lack of infrastructure, limiting its exporting capabilities.
In the past several years, the country has been increasing investment to develop its reserves and export more natural gas to countries such as China.
China is currently the largest importer of Turkmen gas.
In August 2021, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that in the future, the volume of natural gas exported to China will reach 100 billion m3.
The work of geologists of the «Lebapgazchykarysh» department is also of great importance in the stable supply of the blue fuel to consumers.
At present, the drilling operations of a production well, the design depth of which is 3.3 thousand meters, are at the final stage at the Agarguyi field.
Drilling work is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
