PGNiG is looking at US LNG to help meet increased gas demand in Poland as well as to eliminate the need for Russian pipeline gas imports
Warsaw, March 31 - Neftegaz.RU. Poland's state-controlled gas importer
PGNiG has placed an order for regasification services at the planned
FSRU-based LNG terminal in Gdansk Bay.
The procedure consists of 2 phases.
Upon completion of Phase 1,
Gaz-System is to assess whether the level of regasification services requested in the submitted orders is sufficient to proceed with the project.
In Phase 2, planned by Gaz-System for the 2
nd quarter of 2023, the reservation of
regasification capacity takes place.

It is important not only to obtain LNG but also to have appropriate infrastructural capabilities allowing for its import

PGNiG’s ambitions is to increase its share in the international gas market; specifically in the region of Central and Eastern Europe

Therefore, PGNiG decides to reserve additional regasification capacity
According to the current plan, the floating FSRU terminal is to be launched at the beginning of 2028.
In 2021, PGNiG’s LNG imports amounted to 3.94 bcm after regasification and increased from 3.76 bcm in 2020.
Poland has been working in recent years to cut its reliance on
Russian gas supplies by expanding its relationships with additional pipeline suppliers and
LNG exporters, particularly those in Norway, Qatar and the U.S.
