Poland´s PGNiG aims to increase gas extraction in Norway

PGNiG has forecast a rise in its extraction of gas in Norway for the years 2022-24

Poland´s PGNiG aims to increase gas extraction in Norway

Warsaw, May 12 - Neftegaz.RU. PGNiG Upstream Norway, a Norwegian unit of Poland’s state-owned oil & gas company PGNiG, plans to produce an additional volume of approximately 0.5 billion m3 of gas this year to ensure the diversification of gas supplies for Poland.

The increased gas production comes from 3 reservoirs: Skarv, Gina Krog and Duva.
PGNiG holds an 11.3% interest in the Gina Krog license, an 11.92% interest in Skarv license and a 30% interest in Duva license.

At the 1st 2 fields, the reinjection of gas into reservoirs will cease, freeing up extra volumes for export.
At Duva, PGNiG and its partners will make use of spare production capacity at the Gjoa platform that handles its gas.
This extra capacity will be available until the end of August, when the Nova field is due on stream.

Iwona Waksmundzka-Olejniczak, President of the Management Board of PGNiG, said:
  • The Norwegian Continental Shelf is a priority area of development of the PGNiG 's exploration & production operations and plays a very important role in our strategy for diversification of gas supplies to the Polish market
  • In connection with recent events, including cut off of gas supplies under the Yamal contract, the results of our operations in Norway have gained particular significance
  • Soon, after the launch of the Baltic Pipe, additional m3 of gas extracted by PGNiG in Norway will translate to more energy security for Poland
In 2023, the company plans to produce 2.5 bcm of gas, i.e. 100 million m3 more than previously forecast.
In 2024, PGNiG's output on the Norwegian Continental Shelf may reach 2.9 bcm – this is 0.3 bcm more than assumed so far.

PGNiG Upstream Norway holds interests in 59 licenses on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and produces from 14 fields
