Russian Sakhalin Energy to deliver 1st carbon-neutral LNG to Japan's Toho Gas

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, September 28 - Neftegaz.RU. During the Sakhalin Oil & Gas Far Eastern Energy Forum, Russian LNG producer Sakhalin Energy and Toho Gas have expressed their intention of a strategic partnership.
It involves cooperation in decarbonisation, which will begin with the delivery of the 1^st carbon neutral/offset LNG cargo from the Sakhalin-2 project.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, Advisor to the Director General of Gazprom Export Alexander Medvedev, the Governor of the Sakhalin Oblast Valery Limarenko.

Roman Dashkov, CEO of Sakhalin Energy, said:

• Amid the global energy transformation, Sakhalin Energy considers environmental protection intrinsic to all production processes and aims at the progressive reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
• The company’s decarbonisation initiatives are complex measures within production processes that will result in the delivery of the 1^st carbon neutral LNG at the Sakhalin-2 project
• Sakhalin Energy will continue moving in this direction, developing cooperation with the buyers in the Asia-Pacific, who place a big focus on the range of environmental issues

According to him, this carbon neutral/offset delivery is a key step in implementation of the corporate Green LNG strategy, which aims to reduce the carbon footprint of the Sakhalin-2 project and to ensure Sakhalin Energy’s leading position in a new area of energy products market.

The 1^st shipment of the carbon neutral/offset LNG cargo from the Sakhalin-2 project will take place in early October.
