Belarus to buy 1 million tonnes of oil from Azerbaijan in 2021

Baku, April 14 – Neftegaz.RU. Belarus intends to buy 1 million tonnes of oil from Azerbaijan in 2021, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Azerbaijan Andrei Ravkov told journalists, BelTA has learned.
The ambassador said:
  • Plans are in place to buy 1 million tonnes of oil
  • The supplies have been steady
  • So far, Azerbaijan has delivered 270,000 tonnes
  • An oil tanker with another 90,000 tonnes is on its way
According to Ambassador Ravkov, last year Belarus got around 800,000 tonnes of oil from Azerbaijan.
The countries intend to continue developing cooperation in this field, he noted.

In 2020, the Belarus-Azerbaijan trade came close to $500 million, SOCAR Trading supplied the Belarusian Oil Company with about 1 million tonnes of oil.
SOCAR supplied oil through the port of Odessa and further through the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline to the Mozyr refinery.

Belarus is diversifying sources for its 2 refineries.
While continuing to buy Russian oil, Belarus is also working with alternative routes for transporting raw materials to its refineries.
Oil is supplied by sea through ports in Klaipeda and Odessa.
In particular, since the beginning of 2020, Minsk purchased oil from Azerbaijan, Norway, Saudi Arabia and the U.S.
