Norwegian Equinor and Algerian Sonatrach sign MoU for exploration and production in Algeria, internationally

The 2 state controlled companies are looking at opportunities inside and outside Algeria

Algiers, May 18 - Neftegaz.RU. On 17 May Equinor and Sonatrach signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to examine cooperation within oil and gas exploration and production in Algeria and internationally.
The signing of the MoU strengthens the existing partnership between Equinor and Sonatrach.

The MoU also includes cooperation within greenhouse gas emissions and carbon management, industrial safety management, implementation of technology to increase hydrocarbon recovery and development of a model for driving high-performance oil operations.

Together with BP and the Algerian national oil company Sonatrach Equinor is involved in the development and production of 2 of the largest gas fields in the country.

Equinor entered Algeria in 2003 following the purchase of:
  • 50% of BP shares in the gas-condensate field In Amenas
  • and 49% of BP shares in the dry gas field in In Salah
Current assets include In Salah dry gas field and In Amenas gas-condensate field, as well as a partnership on exploration in the 2,730 sq.km. Timissit license in the Illizi-Ghadames basin in the southeast part of the country.
