Roncador, a 132 sq. km. giant field in the northern area of Campos Basin, was discovered in October 1996 at water depths that range from 1,500 to 2,000 m.
This challenging field started production in January 1999.
The size of the field, the good quality of the crude and the concurrent benefits for the downstream, together with the economic results of the project, led the company to adopt a fast track development plan.
The 1st well presented the existence of 31°API oil and the 2nd an 18°API oil.
Roncador is Brazil’s 5th-largest producing asset.
It was the largest discovery off Brazil in the 1990s and is currently the 3rd largest producing field in Petrobras’ portfolio.
The field has more than 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent in place, under a license lasting until 2052.
Petrobras is the operator of the Roncador field with 75% equity, and Equinor has a 25% stake
