These are basic steel structures of the crane, by means of which further transportation and installation operations for main process equipment of the containment (reactor pressure vessel, steam generators, pressurizer) will be performed.
The polar crane beams were installed using a heavy tracked crane Liebherr in the reactor pressure vessel at elevation +38,500 m.
Yuri Koshelev, Deputy Director for Project Management of ASE Branch Office in Bangladesh, said:
- Installation of heavy structures required comprehensive and well-coordinated work of subcontracting companies
- The specialists of Roin World ensured preparation of the access way for beam lifting by the crane, the specialists of Trest RosSEM installed leaf-type segments of the containment for the rail track installation at elevation +38,500 m within the shortest possible time and the specialists of Energospetsmontazh performed a completing operation - beams installation on the rail track
Due to the crane moving on a circular track, it will be capable of performing all handling works at any point of the reactor compartment.
It is planned to complete the works on the polar crane installation this June, which will be followed by installation of oversized and heavy equipment of the reactor plant of the 1st NPP unit.
After the NPP commissioning, the crane will be used for repair works and fuel transportation.
The General Contractor for Rooppur NPP construction is Atomstroyexport .
The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors was selected for the 1st NPP in Bangladesh, that was successfully implemented at 2 units of Novovoronezh NPP.
This is an evolutionary Generation III+ design which fully complies with all international safety requirements.
