St.Petersburg, June 24 - Neftegaz.RU. Gazprom Export announced that its became main shareholder of the Austrian Centrex Group, which continues ordinary business activities and will fulfill all current obligations towards customers and partners.
Russian company did not reveal the details of the deal.
Centrex Europe Energy & Gas AG is the holding company of Centrex Group, with its head office in Vienna, includes businesses in natural gas trading, storage and transportation on the markets of Austria, Hungary, Italy, Serbia.
Austria, Hungary, Italy and Serbia all rely on Russia for a substantial share of their gas imports.
In June, Hungary has signed a contract with Gazprom for the supply of Russian gas for a period of 15 years.
The deal will come into force as soon as the existing contract expires in September.
Budapest often faces claims from the European Union due to purchases of Russian gas.
In 2020, Hungary imported 8.6 billion m3 of gas.
This is the 2nd-largest amount in the last 12 years.
Russian president Vladimir Putin recently said Gazprom's sales to Europe might exceed 200 billion m3 this year, up from 175 billion m3 in 2019.
Demand is rebounding with the post-coronavirus economic recovery.
