US-based Chart Industries secures helium liquefaction contract for Russia

The U.S. and Qatar together generate the vast majority of the world’s helium. But Russia, already self-sufficient, plans to become a major exporter this year.

US-based Chart Industries secures helium liquefaction contract for Russia

Ball Ground, June 15 - Neftegaz.RU. Chart Industries, has booked an order for a helium liquefaction large-scale plant for one of the largest independent oil and gas producers in Russia.

Chart did not disclose the identity of the customer.
But it said the plant would be the 2nd of its kind to be supplied to the customer by Cryo Technologies, which Chart bought in February this year.

Chart CEO Jill Evanko said:
  • This significant helium liquefaction win is our 3rd hydrogen/helium liquefier order year-to-date 2021 and demonstrates the leading market position of our and Cryo Technologies combined liquefaction technologies and capabilities
  • Our hydrogen/helium commercial liquefaction bidding pipeline remains very active and we expect this trend to increase throughout the 2nd half of 2021
Cryo signed a contract to supply a 7.5 mln m3/year helium purification and liquefaction plant to Irkutsk Oil, an independent oil producer operating in East Siberia.
On June 4, Irkutsk Oil announced it would be constructing a 2nd helium facility.

Equipment deliveries are anticipated to be wrapped up by the end of 2022, with expected completion of commissioning and startup a year later.
The majority of milestone payments will be invoiced in 2021
