US shares retraced overnight after oil prices slid from their record highs and an optimistic report was issued on US consumer confidence, brokers said.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1.12 per cent (114.86 points) to 10,406.02 at the closing bell.
The Nasdaq composite rose 1.25 per cent (25.48 points) to 2,070.68.
