Oil prices started to rise again, amid ongoing concerns over crude supply and uncertainty in the Middle East.
US light sweet crude reached $65.00, then slipped to $64.90 on the NYMEX.
Brent crude jumped $2.08 to a new peak of $64.08 per barrel at IPE.
The latest jump in the price of oil came after a US government report showed that American petrol stocks had fallen by 2.1 million barrels due to ongoing strong demand during the main US driving season, and a number of glitches at American refineries.
In the Middle East, oil traders are particularly concerned at the situation in number one producer Saudi Arabia, where US authorities have warned of a possible attack on US consulates.
