Oil prices have hit a record high of $73.09 a barrel on Tuesday, continuing to reflect world's fears over Iran's confrontation with the international community over its nuclear program.
US light sweet crude surged picked up more than $1 in New York trade to $73.09 a barrel, overpassing last year's previous high of $70.85 reached after Hurricane Katrina.
London's Brent crude futurea again hit a new record of $72.64 a barrel on the IPE.
Analysts said that prices would continue to head upwards as long as Iran's dispute with the international community over its nuclear intentions remained unresolved.
