Russian State Debt Increased 5.4%

The Russian government's domestic debt grew 5.4%, or by 55.4 billion rubles, in January-February to 1.084 trillion rubles from 1.028 trillion rubles on January 1, the Finance Ministry said on its website.

The government's debt grew because of an increase in OFZ-PD issues to 229.48 billion rubles from 205.623 billion rubles, and because of an increase in OFZ-AD to 706.734 billion rubles from 675.164 billion rubles.

The Russian government has allowed the Finance Ministry to place OFZ federal loan bonds for a total of up to 225 billion rubles in 2007 and it will pay off 61.5 billion rubles on maturing government bonds. The government will issue up to 80 billion rubles in government savings bonds.

The 2007 federal budget law puts a cap on the government debt of 1.363 trillion rubles.
