Gold gained to a one-month high on Friday, following strong oil prices and the assassination of Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.
"Gold is up on geopolitical factors, the latest one in Pakistan and tensions between Iraq and Turkey, which are attracting active safe-haven buying in gold," said Shuji Sugata, manager at Mitsubishi Corp Futures and Securities in Tokyo.
Spot gold rose to $826.70/827.50 per ounce as of 0650 GMT from $824.70/825.50 late in New York on Thursday when it rose past $830, to its highest level since November 26.
