Medvedev suggests reviving Soviet-era projects in Afghanistan

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev proposed on Wednesday breathing new life into bilateral economic projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan launched during the Soviet era.
"Resolution of a number of social issues depends on the extent to which we will be able to restart these [economic] processes," Medvedev said at a meeting with his Afghan, Pakistani, and Tajik counterparts in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.
He said the four countries had a number of projects, mainly in energy and social development, that were started during the Soviet era.
It was not immediately clear what their status was at present.
"I believe it would be a good idea to revisit them so as to add momentum to economic development and tackle a number of pressing issues," Medvedev said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Medvedev had bilateral meetings with his Pakistani, Afghan, and Tajik counterparts.
