Gazprom Neft is improving its environmental monitoring system in the Orenburg region

Orenburg, August 4 - Neftegaz.RU. Gazprom Neft has commissioned 4 environmental monitoring stations and more than 100 air-quality monitoring sensors in the Orenburg Oblast.
Victor Sorokin, Head of Operations Management & Industrial Safety Systems Deployment of Gazprom Neft, said:
  • In developing the Eastern block of the Orenburg field we have been relying on Russian and international state-of-the-art best practices, both in oil and gas production and drilling, and in environmental monitoring.
  • The innovative environmental control system developed by Gazprom Neft allows environmental monitoring round the clock, ensuring full efficiency as well as a high level of environmental and industrial safety in developing one of the most geologically challenging fields in the Volga-Urals region
Gazpromneft-Orenburg’s environmental monitoring system tracks air quality at one of the region’s most important oil-and-gas-condensate assets - the Orenburg field’s Eastern Block.
Data are transmitted to this facility’s control room, and to the Orenburg Oblast Integrated Environmental Monitoring System (accessible to all local people) in real time.

Evgeny Zagrebelny, Director General of Gazpromneft-Orenburg, noted:
  • Gazpromneft-Orenburg is a centre for developing new technologies both in drilling, in bringing hard-to-recover reserves into production, and in digital production management, as well as in industrial safety
  • We have developed an innovative environmental monitoring system, meeting the latest international standards, and which is allowing us to develop one of the most environmentally challenging fields in the Orenburg region not just efficiently, but in harmony with the local ecosystem
Gazprom Neft will have installed 2 further environmental monitoring stations, as well as commissioning about 50 control sensors, by end-2021.
This integrated eco-monitoring system will include more than 900 sensors, and 16 stations, in total, by that time.

Air quality is also monitored by 3 mobile laboratories, equipped with gas-analysis and weather monitoring equipment.
A further 20 control posts will be commissioned over the next 2 years.

Total investment in environmental protection initiatives under this project - which is due to be complete by 2023 - is expected to reach RUB 2.3 billion ($31.5 million).
