Breakthrough in LNG Tank Technology

More orders are expected to be won in both Japan and abroad as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries LTD begins use of its new welding technology for LNG tanks.

According to the company, a faster way to weld together the steel plates that form the inner walls of giant LNG storage tanks has been developed. Using this technology, Mitsubishi Heavy can conduct welding operations twice as fast, shortening the overall inner-wall assembly process by around 30 per cent and cutting costs in the process.
