Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, designed by BP, has been ruined by corrosion. 26% of pipeline, or 1,260 joints in Georgian section had problems with cracking due to difficulties with the coatings.
The report about it has been public for the first time only yesterday.
A further 300 joints on the Azerbaijan section of the pipe had similar problems and WorleyParsons, the firm which is investigating the problem, criticized the "inaction" by the pipeline management team, which had "allowed the problems to become greater than necessary".
A former consultant to BP, Derek Mortimore, described the pipeline coating technology as "appalling".
