The Belgium to Britain gas pipeline has been expanded to allow up to 25.5 billion cubic metres of gas a year; 2 bcm a year more than before.
The pipeline between Bacton in the U.K and Zeebrugge in Belgium was originally built to export Britain's excess gas supplies to continental Europe.
The gas supply has been increased as Britain's own production has dwindled.
The gas from the pipeline is used to heat most homes and fuel many power stations.
