Novatek Ships First Delivery of Hydrocarbons Via Northern Sea Route

On August 14, 2010, an experimental voyage left the city of Murmansk to deliver a shipment of liquid hydrocarbons via the Northern Sea Route. This marks the first time a shipment of large tonnage vessels is transporting hydrocarbons via the route. Sovkomflot's 100,000 ton deadweight Baltika tanker, accompanied by the Atomflot ice-breaker, is taking Novatek stable gas condensate to countries on the Asia-pacific rim.

using the Northern Sea Route cuts the delivery time of shipments between ports in Rusisa's north-west and the Asia-Pacific region. Industry exerts predict this will help develop Russia's northern territories and increase development of oil and gas fields on the Yamal peninsula.
