Apache, Chevron Restart Operations as Cyclone Rusty Weakens

Apache Energy confirmed Thursday that it is in the midst of a restarting process for its Stag oil field offshore Western Australia after the passing of Cyclone Rusty over the Pilbara coastline late Wednesday.

"Restart processes include the phased remanning of offshore facilities and inspection for any cyclone-related damage," Apache told Rigzone.

The Stag oil field is located in 161 feet (49 meters) of water 37 miles (60 kilometers) offshore Dampier, Western Australia. Reserves on the field are estimated between 35 and 55 million barrels of oil. Apache serves as the operator of Stag with 33.3 percent interest, while Santos holds the remaining 66.7 percent stake of the field.

Dow Jones Newswires reported Thursday that Chevron Corp has given the "all clear" on its cyclone readiness plans and started the remobilization of workers to its Barrow and Thevenard sites.

The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology said in a statement Thursday that Rusty was weakening as it tracked inland from the coast of Western Australia, but remained destructive with gusts up to 78 miles per hour.

Residents were returning to their homes from storm shelters Thursday after the danger declared passed. Iron ore export facilities were shut down Wednesday for fear of damage.
