The experts have analyzed studies on alternative fuels for the freight transport published over the past three years as well as interviewed representatives of transport and logistics companies that use LNG trucks for a long-distance transportation. The research has revealed some evident advantages of natural gas over diesel fuels in terms of costs.
“As for the vehicles with fuel cells, electric batteries or those using the overhead contact wiring, these technologies and the corresponding infrastructure are not yet sufficiently developed, " said Stefan Berning of the German TÜV Rheinland.
Another result of the research was an online calculator that helps buyers to choose the most efficient type of new truck drive depending on conditions and period of use.
