Gazprom Export: European NGV market surges in 2019

Brussels, March 6 - Neftegaz.RU. Gazprom Export reported, that Natural & bio Gas Vehicle Association (NGVA Europe) has released statistics on gas vehicle registrations and fueling station development in Europe in 2019. The association analyzed markets of the European Union and the European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland).

According to the report, the number of new registrations for passenger cars powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) rose nearly 6% from 2018 to 69,900. More than a half of the new CNG-vehicles were registered in Italy (55.2%) followed by Germany (10.9%) and Spain (7.8%).

In addition, in 2019, there were 1,980 new gas buses and 8,910 new light commercial gas vehicles in Europe. 2,120 new CNG trucks also started on the roads. The number of new LNG powered heavy-duty trucks (4,510) has almost tripled compared to 2018.

Gas fueling infrastructure is also developing extensively. The number of CNG filling stations in Europe reached 3,732, while the number of LNG stations increased by 50% to 249. Most of the new stations were built in Italy.

“These numbers confirm the ever-growing attraction of natural gas mobility for European consumers. This is the result of a mature gas vehicle technology with high engine efficiency and performance, widespread infrastructure and low total cost of ownership (TCO), but also great environmental benefits of gas in transport," – said NGVA Europe Secretary General Andrea Gerini.
