Estonian Eesti Energia will supply Port of Tallinn with 10 GWh of renewable electricity during 2021

Tallinn, March 15 - Neftegaz.RU. The Estonian port has entered into a renewable energy purchase agreement with Eesti Energia and now consumes only green electricity that's produced in the country.

According to the deal, Eesti Energia will supply the Port of Tallinn with 10 GWh of renewable electricity during 2021 for the port's own use.
As a result, emitting almost 7,000t of CO₂/year will be avoided.

Ellen Kaasik, Head of the Port of Tallinn's Quality and Environmental Management Department, said:

• Energy efficiency and greater use of renewable energy sources are an important step in reducing the port's ecological footprint and achieving climate neutrality

Last year, the 1^st Estonian ABB shore power equipment was installed on the Old City Harbour quay as part of an important project, the introduction of which brought cleaner air and less noise to Tallinn, thus reducing CO₂ emissions per passenger ship by 100 tons in a month.

Concluding, the biggest port authority in Estonia, Port of Tallinn has taken great steps in recent years to move towards a more sustainable living environment, such as:

• the construction of environmentally friendly buildings
• reduction of port fees for eco-friendly ships
• implementing economically efficient hybrid solutions in passenger ferry traffic between the mainland and the island

Eesti Energia produces electricity and heat from wind, water, biomass, solar power and municipal waste.
The company produced 1.5 TWh of renewable electricity in 2020, accounting for 40% of its total electricity production.
Eesti Energia’s CO₂ emissions have fallen 3-fold since 2018.
