Statoil officially opened the Dudgeon offshore wind farm in the UK

Statoil and its partners Masdar and Statkraft on November 22, 2017, officially opened the 402MW Dudgeon offshore wind farm off the coast of Norfolk in the UK.

Statoil and partners said the entire facility was completed on time and below the $1.9 billion budget set when the final investment decision was made in 2014.

The 67 Siemens Gamesa 6MW turbines is now delivering power to the United Kingdom grid, generating enough electricity for around 410 000 homes.

The United Kingdom ranks 2nd in Europe behind Germany for offshore wind energy capacity, with about 518 megawatts, before Dudgeon was connected.

Eldar Saetre, Statoil’s CEO, said the company will grow significantly in renewable energy as part of its strategy to develop from a traditional oil and gas company to a diversified energy provider.

Statoil and Masdar own 35% of the wind farm, with Statkraft holding the remaining 30%.
