Gazprom Energoholding eyes investment in renewables in Serbia

Belgrade, October 22 – Neftegaz.RU. Russia's Gazprom Energoholding has expressed interest in investing in renewable energy projects in Serbia as part of its plans for expansion in Europe, according to Seenews, Serbia's energy ministry said.

«We are ready for further projects in the field of renewable energy, and we would like to start our expansion to the European market right from Serbia,»  the energy ministry quoted the managing director of the company, Denis Fedorov, as saying in a statement.

Gazprom Energoholding is interested in investing in Serbia given the positive experience of Gazprom Neft in the country, Fedorov said during a meeting with Serbian energy minister Aleksandar Antic in Belgrade.

«Considering that leading Russian energy companies are present in Serbia through the cooperation between Gazprom and Srbijagas, as well as through the majority ownership of Gazprom Neft in NIS, we want to extend this cooperation to other aspects of energy production,» Antic said.

In 2015, Serbian oil and gas company NIS said its joint venture company with Gazprom Energoholding's unit Tsentrenergoholding, TE-TO Pancevo, plans to build of a 140 MW gas-fired power plant in Pancevo. Gazprom Neft controls a 56.15% stake in the capital of Serbian oil & gas company NIS.
