On 8 November 2011, Line 1 began transporting natural gas from Russia to European businesses and households.
Line 2 followed 1 year later, completing the twin-pipeline system with an annual design capacity of 55 billion m3.
Alexey Zaytsev, Nord Stream AG Managing Director said on the occasion:
- We celebrate 10 years of operation of the Nord Stream Pipeline today
- An international team of industry experts works together tirelessly over the years for the success of the company
- We are proud to deliver natural gas to Europe in a reliable, safe and efficient way
They noted that the international Nord Stream project is a shining example of successful cooperation between European companies and is intended to make a significant contribution to the long-term energy security of the EU.
One of the main priorities of the project is to operate the pipeline with the least environmental impact.
The results of extensive environmental monitoring programmes, which were developed in close cooperation with the Baltic Sea states, confirm that Nord Stream AG is fulfilling all its commitments to safeguard the ecosystem of the Baltic Sea.
Nord Stream AG also consistently fulfils all transport nominations: since the 1st gas delivery in 2011, the company transported over 430 billion m3 of natural gas to Europe.
