Gazprom Export begun to supply gas to Austria's OMV under a new long-term contract

Moscow, December 4 - Neftegaz.RU. On 1st December, Gazprom Export began gas deliveries to the German market for OMV Gas Marketing & Trading GmbH. The companies have concluded a new long-term agreement in the end of October 2020.

On behalf of Gazprom Group, the document was signed by Elena Burmistrova, Director General of Gazprom Export. “This new long-term contract proves that Russian pipeline gas will remain in demand in Europe for many years to come. We are glad that our oldest partner OMV will work on Europe’s largest gas market in Germany with gas from Gazprom," Burmistrova said.

Germany is the largest consumer of Russian gas. The total volume of natural gas sold to German partners since the deliveries began in 1973, exceeded 1 trillion cubic meters.

Austria became the first country in Western Europe to sign a long-term gas supply contract with the USSR in 1968. Over the past years, the volume of gas exports from Russia to Austria has grown more than tenfold, reaching a record value of 16.28 bcm in 2019.

OMV is one of Gazprom's key European partners. As of January 1, 2020, Austria has received around 239 bcm of Russian natural gas in total since the beginning of supplies.
