Born December 16, 1956
1982 – Graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations
1983-1992 – Transferred to First Chief Directorate Foreign Intelligence of KGB and Foreign Intelligence Service and worked in London as an “economic attaché” where he worked on capital flight from Russia.
1995 – Lebedev’s Russian Investment-Finance Company acquired National Reserve Bank, with Lebedev becoming president.
NRB and Alfa Bank were the only two Russian banks to survive the 1998 currency default.
2000 – Awarded Kandidat (Ph.D.) Economics degree for his dissertation Problems of Russian Foreign Debt and a Dr. Sci degree for the dissertation Financial Globalization in the context of the Global, Regional and National Russian development.
2003 – Candidate for the elections of Moscow Mayor and State Duma
2006 – In March he was listed by Forbes magazine as one of the richest Russians and as the 194th richest person in the world with an estimated fortune of $3.5 billion.
In 2007 Mr Lebedev entered the the larger socialist coalition Fair Russia, which was headed by Sergey Mironov, the speaker of Council of the Federation.
In April of 2008 he was taken out of the fraction's membership for political reasons.
In March 2009, Lebedev was registered as a candidate for mayor of Sochi, but a court ruling declared his candidacy invalid on April 13, 2009.
In April 2013, Lebedev sold his Red Wings airline for RUR 1 to a group of Russian investors following a crash of one of its passenger jets and a flight ban by the authorities.
Lebedev, together with the former President of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, is the owner of 49% of Novaya Gazeta, a symbol of opposition journalism in Russia.
Lebedev is married with the Russian model Elena Perminova, he has 4 children.
In his spare time he likes swimming and playing football.
He speaks fluent English is also a renowned philanthropist.
