Biography
Born on May 12, 1950, in Novgorod.
Education: Bonch-Bruevich Electrotechnical Institute of Communications, Leningrad, 1974.
From 1977: Worked in the KGB in various operational and leadership capacities, over a period of more than 20 years.
1987-1988: Took part in providing international assistance to the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan.
1994-1996: Head of the Administrative Bodies Directorate of the St. Petersburg Mayor’s Office.
1998-1999: Department head at the Federal Security Service (FSB).
1999-2000: Deputy Director of the FSB, head of the Economic Security Directorate.
Since 2000: Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration.
Since 2004: Aide to the President of the Russian Federation.
Since 2004 he has also been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC Aeroflot airline.
From 2008 - 2016, he has been a Director of Russia’s Federal Service for the Control of Narcoticsand a Chairman of State Anti-Narcotics Сommittee, which included 29 Heads of Russian Ministries.
He is married and has two children.
