He was born in 1951 in Ishimbai City in Bashkiria. In 1973 he graduated from Ufa Petroleum Institute, profession v economics and organization of oil and gas industry. Upon graduation from the Institute he worked at the departments of the production association "Bashneft" as an engineer economist at "Arlanneft" and as head of economical planning department.
In 1976-1984 he worked in Sakhalin, occupied leading positions there. In 1984 he moved to Noyabrsk , Tumen region where he worked for two years as deputy general director of Noyabrskneftegaz. In 1986 he was invited to the USSR Ministry of Petroleum Industry where he occupied leading positions at the main planning department, then at the Russian State oil&gas corporation "Rosneftegaz" as director of the department of economy, finances and market relations and also at the state enterprise Rosneft as director of the department of economy and current planning.
Since October, 1994 he was first vice-president of the company Rosneft. At present he is first vice-president of oil company Surgutneftegaz.
