Biography

He was born on October, 9, 1959 in Sochi.
In 1981 he graduated with distinctions from the Lobachevski Gorky State University, radio physical department.
In the period between 1990 and 1993 he was RF People-s deputy.
At the end of 1991 he was appointed head of Nizhny Novgorod administration.
In 1993-1996 he was deputy of RF Federal Assembly.
In December, 1995 he was elected Governor of Nizhny Novgorod region.


Since March, 17, 1997 he was first deputy Chairman of RF Government.
From April to November, 1997 v also Minister of RF Power and Fuel.
Since 1997 v member of RF Security Soviet. After his retirement on March, 23, 1998 he occupied the position of the first deputy chairman of RF Government.
On August, 24, 1998 he retired from this post.


Nemtsov advocated opposition reform movements in Russia as cofounder (1999) and leader (2000–04) of the neoliberal Union of Right Forces, as founder (2008) with chess champion Garry Kasparov of the "Solidarnost", and as cofounder (2010) and cochair (2012–15) of the "People’s Freedom Party".


In 2009 he ran for election to be mayor of Sochi, he won only 14% of the vote and claimed the election campaign had been unfairly slanted against him.


On 27 February 2015, Nemtsov was shot several times in the back as he was crossing the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow.
