Born in 1937. In 1959 graduated from Ufa Oil Institute to be engineer-mechanic on construction and exploitation of oil&gas pipelines. Upon graduation worked in the system of oil transporting, occupied positions from engineer to head of main pipelines administration in West and North-West Siberia. In 1980-1991 was head of Glavtransneft in the USSR Ministry of oil and gas industry. In 1991- Minister deputy, in 1991-1993 - vice-president of Russian State oil&gas corporation Rosneftegaz. Since 1993 - president of Transneft. In July, 1998 - retired by governmental order.
