Biography

Born in Moscow on March, 16, 1955.


In 1977 graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University where studied together with Egor Gaidar.


In 1980 finished MSU post-graduate course. Candidate of Economic Science.
In 1981-88 - research assistant in All-Union Scientific Research Institute of system researches of USSR Academy of Sciences.


In 1989-91 held the post of counsellor in USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs and worked at the same time in the International Institute of applied system analysis (Vienna).
In 1991 is appointed to the post of the head of foreign economic connections Committee and RF Foreign Political Department head first deputy in Egor Gaidar government.


In January, 1992 Petr Aven is appointed head of Ministry of Foreign Economic Connections of Russia.
In July, 1992 - deputy chairman of Currency economical committee of RF government, in December of the same year - retired.


1993 Aven established financial consulting company specializing on securities - Finances of Petr Aven (FinPA). From the very start FinPA was in close contact with Alpha bank.
In October, 1994 Petr Aven became president of Alpha bank.


In December, 1993 Aven was elected Deputy in RF State Duma (List Choice of Russia), however gave up the mandate.

Aven is also Chairman of the Board of Directors at AlfaStrakhovanie Group, Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of CTC Media, Inc.

In 2012, the Alfa Group together with Viktor Vekselberg of Renova Group and Leonard Blavatnik of Access Industries sold their aggregate 50% stake in TNK-BP to state-owned Rosneft for $28 billion.

In 2013, Aven joined the Board of LetterOne Group, an international investment business founded by Mikhail Fridman and focused on the telecoms, technology and energy sectors.

In 2015 he was named number 301 in the richest people in the world, with a worth of around $5.1 billion.
