Biography
He was born on November, 15, 1946 in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea.
He got the qualification of 'engineer-mechanic of electrification and automatization' at the Leningrad Lenin Electro-technical Institute (1964-1970).
In 1970-1973 upon graduation from the Institute he worked as ahead of the electronic equipment repairing department at the Cherepovets metallurgical factory.
Till 1990 he occupied the positions of the factory chief engineer deputy and factory directir deputy. In 1990-1996 he was Mayer of Cherepovets.
In 1995 he published a book 'I do not want to be a president'.
1996- 2011 - Governor of the Vologda Oblast.
Since 2011 - the Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
Hobbies: reading, music, sports.
He speaks German.
Married, has one daughter.
