Biography
He was born in 1934 in the Kuibishev region.
He graduated from the Kuibishev Industrial Institute in 1956 with the qualification 'oil and gas deposits prospecting'.
He is a candidate of engineering sciences, the USSR State prize-winner.
He worked at the Kuibishev region deposits for 15 years.
In 1970 he headed the gas-field department, in 1976 he became head of 'Orenburggasdobicha'.
In 1978-1983 he worked as a chief engineer at 'Orenburggasprom'.
In 1983 he was appointed deputy Minister of the USSR gas industry.
He has been chairman of the board of RAO 'Gazprom' since 1992.
In May 2001, Viakhirev had to resign as chairman.
Rem Viakhrev died in Moscow on February 11, 2013 at the age of 78.
He was married. He had a son, daughter, grandson and 2 granddaughters.
