«The position of the United States of America is unrealistic, which wants to bury this project [Nord Stream-2] with all sorts of legal declarations, resolutions, sanctions, by having an unambiguous impact on the European Union,» the Russian prime minister said at a press conference on September 21, 2017.
«Moreover, pragmatism here is of the highest level, because it is simply the American administration, especially the Congress that makes such decisions, is trying to promote its suppliers and replace the Russian Federation in this market,” the Russian PM said. «But the decision, of course, is taken by our colleagues from the EU, the European Commission and individual governments of the countries,» the head of government drew attention.
The EU’s position on the Nord Stream-2 project is unacceptable in terms of equality of treatment for all investors, Dmitry Medvedev said.
«With regard to the position of the European Commission, this position is only being formulated, but it is probably not as pragmatic as Finland’s position: it really is to propose to the Russian Federation to sign a separate agreement on Nord Stream-2.»
«In our opinion, this is unacceptable from the point of view of equality of attitude towards all investors, since such projects were implemented outside of any agreements on the basis of bilateral agreements,» said Medvedev.
He noted that negotiations with the European Commission are continuing.
Over the last year, the US has increased LNG supplies to Europe.
However, it now has only 6 % of European LNG imports, which doesn’t take into account gas supplies through pipelines.
