Boasting excellent efficiency, latest technology and digital solutions, ZapSibNeftekhim is a great model of a state-of-the-art processing facility. It is capable of delivering over 2.2 million tonnes of high value-added products annually, mostly polyethylene and polypropylene, the world’s most popular polymers.
The project targets Russia as its priority market. Through ZapSibNeftekhim, the Russian processing industry gains access to an expanded range of modern polymers to deliver solutions which are in high demand by end consumers. To date, SIBUR’s customers have already verified the excellent quality of over 30 PE and PP grades, including those never made domestically before. This way SIBUR is close to eliminating Russia’s dependence on imports of the most common plastics.

The value of Russian analogues of foreign products is estimated at ca. RUB 34 bln annually. Going forward, the diversified range of grades is expected to drive adjacent industries making higher added value products for the construction, housing and utilities, food, automotive, and retail sectors. In response to society’s increased needs during the COVID-19 pandemic, SIBUR has stepped up ZapSibNeftekhim’s production of polymer grades for the healthcare industry.
ZapSibNeftekhim is a meaningful part of the nation’s prioritised commitment to expanding the share of non-commodity exports. Preliminary estimates say that in 2020 the facility’s international deliveries will cover up to 15% of the target growth in non-commodity exports.
“The new facility uses state-of-the-art equipment and digital technologies, including our proprietary solutions. As a producer of materials with low carbon footprint, ZapSibNeftekhim is a major milestone in our progress towards sustainable development. Another crucial component of the project’s success was our reimagined approach to managing the business, building the team and professional competences. It is the people who can fully unlock the potential of any facility, no matter how modern it is. And it is the people that are a testament to the strong competitive position that the Russian petrochemical industry enjoys as compared to the world’s renowned industry leaders”, Konov noted.
