General scheme of Russian gas supply to Armenia for period before 2030 under discussion now

General scheme of Russian gas supply to Armenia for period before 2030 under discussion now

Yerevan, April 30 - Neftegaz.RU
. Russia and Armenia intend to set up a general scheme of gas supply and the deployment of gas-supply infrastructures before 2030, Sergei Prikhodko, the 1st deputy head of the Russian government office, told journalists ahead of Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Armenia, where the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will hold its session on April 30, TASS reported.

He said that the Eurasian Economic Union member countries pay special attention to cooperation in the gas area – either current project or prospects for future projects are being discussed. “For example, there is an arrangement to coordinate the project of the general scheme of gas supply and gas-supply infrastructures for a period before 2030,” he said.

Prikhodko said that Russia is the biggest supplier of gas to Armenia pointing out that gas exports from Russia (around 2 billion cu m every year) cater for Armenia’s need completely. He stressed that Russia supplies gas to Armenia at preferential prices (compared with world prices), which are based on bargain arrangements.

The gas sale-purchase contract expired on December 31, 2018, and now an additional contract signed between Gazprom Export and Gazprom Armenia is in force. The gas price for 2019 is set in this contract.

It has been reported earlier that the Armenian energy infrastructures and natural resources ministry finds it reasonable to seal a 5-year contract with Gazprom on the gas price instead of setting the price every year.

Prikhodko said that the price-making problem will be solved in the Eurasian Economic Union upon completion of formation of common energy sources, gas and oil markets.

On January 1, 2019, Russia’s Gazprom increased the gas price on border from $150 to 165 per 1,000 cu m. Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan said that despite that, the gas price for consumers in the country will be kept unchanged.
