Japan Still Hopes For Iranian Oil Deal

Japan missed the Iranian deadline of 30 June to agree to the offered terms to develop the huge Azadegan oil field in Iran, due to political pressure from the United States. However, the discussions have not stopped.

The US claims that the time is very unfortunate for a big oil deal with Iran as the country is accused of developing a nuclear programme.

The negotiations with Iran and the US are lead by the Japanese Ministry of Economics on behalf of a consortium including Inpex, Japan National Oil Corp. (JNOC), and Japex.
