Iran Looks to Improve Downstream Industries
Country plans to increase petrochemical exports to $4 billion...
An official with the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) announced plans for petrochemical exports to top US$4 billion by 2006. This pales in comparison to last year's $530 million.
NPC's director for marketing, Mohammad Safaieian said that 23 petrochemical projects will be operational by the end of the current year. He added that total petrochemicals production stood at 13 million tons last year, and he expected this figure to reach 16 million tons this year.
The figure is slated to rise to 37 million tons in two years, he added.
The approach is designed with the presumption that production of basic materials will raise investment in downstream industries and increase employment opportunities in the sector.
