Iraqi Pipelines Getting Protection

Ghazi Talabani, the official in charge of the protection of the oil infrastructure, said that the frequency of attacks on oil infrastructure has decreased over the past few months.

The occupation forces employed the services of the South African company Erinys, which specializes in security services, to protect oil installations in the north. The occupation forces left the protection of oil pipelines and wells to the Ministry of Oil.

Talabani said that the Arab and Kurdish tribes that live in the area protect the oil pipeline while Erinys protects the installations within the company).

Talabani added that the number of attacks has decreased and that the number of recent attacks is very low. Talabani said that the last attack on the oil pipelines that connect Kirkuk with the Turkish port of Ceyhan, the main export terminal for the northern region's oil, occurred a few months ago.
