Kazakh State Oil outlines vision for future...
The Kazakh KazMunayGaz national oil and gas company is determined to become the leading producer of hydrocarbon raw materials in the world, the president of KazMunayGaz, Uzakbay Karabalin, said at a news conference held in Aktau January 23rd.
"Last year's positive results disposed us not only to be satisfied with our own job but also to be a prevailing company (in oil industry) in the country," Karabalin said.
In addition, noting the fact KazMunayGaz's share in the overall volume of oil extraction in the country was 16 per cent, he stressed: "This does not suit us as a national oil company. We are expecting to enter the world market. We think that we should become an aggressive company - in the good sense of this word."
Karabalin also noted that "the company's future will depend mainly on sea operations" in the Caspian Sea.
The company is planning to begin construction of the Atasu-Alashankou oil pipeline from the centre of Kazakhstan towards the Chinese border in the summer of this year.
