A pipeline carrying oil from Western Kazakhstan to Russia has ruptured, the second such accident in this oil-rich Central Asian nation in a week, officials said Monday.
The Novyi Uzen-Atyrau-Samara pipeline burst Sunday because of rust, Emergency Situations Agency spokesman Kairzhan Turezhanov said. He said oil was still flowing through it and repair work was under way.

On Thursday, a rupture of the Kalamkas-Karazhanbas-Aktau pipeline, also in the west, caused a leak of more than 58,000 gallons of oil. The leak was stopped within hours.
