Azerbaijan will not be able to import additional quantities of natural gas from the Russian Federation in 2004, as was also the case in 2003, because of disagreements between Itera international and Gazprom on the terms of shipments in Russia.
Russian companies have informed the Azerbaijani government that they can supply no more than 4.5bn cu.m. of gas this year, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasizada told journalists.
He said that at present the Azerbaijani government was continuing negotiations with the companies on the supply of additional quantities of gas agreed earlier.
At present Azerbaijan is experiencing a shortage of natural gas and not only in the regions, but also some of the residential suburbs in Baku and surrounding villages, are not being supplied with gas.
